Smackin Great flavor, nutritious, convenient, we at My Dottie Foods made these directives our directives for all our products.
We believe My Dottie Foods soups (Roasted Tomato Bisque, Cream of Spinach, Onion Parmesan Crème and Cream of Mushroom) all achieve these key points. We also see them as a best in class, again, when evaluating calorie values by being $.18 per Kcals.
Our hiker camper, hunter & boater followers opened our eyes to other important evaluators. Proteins and Kcals by weight; they pack it in they know they must pack it out. Being highest in protein is a big reason Cream of Spinach is the biggest seller; nutrition is key!
With the ever increasing awareness on healthy and minimally processed foods (MPFs) we are giving particular attentions to the NOVA system. A system widely regarded as the gold standard for assessing food processing. Evaluated in processing levels instead of actual nutrition, Human interpretations have caused much confusion when attempts are made to utilize this as a buyers guide tool.
Enter GroceryDB a. new tool created by researchers at Northeastern University. They have analyzed over 50,000 food products, ingredient lists and nutrition labels. GroceryDB ranks them on how they are processed. Published in Nature EarthFoods (https://www.earth.com/news/new-tool-lets-you-check-how-processed-your-food-is-grocerydb/#google_vignette.); this study aims to simplify nutrition complexities and be a tool for consumers wanting to make healthier choices.
At the heart of GroceryDB is the AI FPro algorithm that evaluates how processed a food is. Fresh produce ranks near 0 while ultra processed frozen dinners or sugary snacks climb closer to 100. All available on the Truefood dashboard (https://www.truefood.tech) This holistic approach spot patterns that reveal hidden industrial processing; For example, a simple whole-grain bread with no additives might score 31 signaling minimal processing. Add a starch or a fiber and the score jump to 73; add corn syrup and preservatives could max out at 99.
“Food labels often mislead or overwhelm” says Menichetti a computer physicist, “where GroceryDB translates complex data into clear actionable insights for consumers.”
Seems the FDA & USDA agencies are doing similar reflections. In late December issued joint requests for food date labeling information. Not only a refresh on the nutrition labeling portions; but to include feedback on the “, “use by”, “sell by &” best if used buy” and how to support better decisions for consumers.
My Dottie Foods has proactively reached out to GroceryDB with intentions of bringing this tool into our product development. Once we find the form to provide the USDA & FDA with our position on terms and label content we will participate in their surveys.
In the meantime, contact us for some lip smackin good soup and stay healthy and well nourished.
